Through the new x402 endpoint, developers and AI agents can now use Chainlink’s off-chain validation and execution tools to complete payments in real-time. Simply put, AI systems can: Purchase, Confirm and Pay All on-chain services can be used independently if needed.
Aakar Shroff, VP of Products at Chainlink Labs, said he is excited that x402 will be the first AI payments partner for CRE. “This allows AI agents to directly trigger CRE workflows and pay workflow creators for the value they provide,” he explained.

Imagine an insurance company protecting farmers from drought. By using CRE, you can check on-chain rainfall data. The system then triggers automatic payments to farmers through x402. x402-IPFS is a new tool that leverages openx402 to allow developers to easily upload and store files over x402 to the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). Eliminating the need for API keys or logins makes on-chain data storage seamless and secure. Developers can connect ERC-8004 identity and reputation data directly to IPFS content hashes to maintain transparency and verifiability of digital records.
