Grayscale says the third quarter of 2025 could decline as one of the rarest Altcoin seasons the market has seen.
It’s new ReportAsset Manager noted that Bitcoin’s performance against other sectors is poor, pointing to lifts from centralized exchanges as a sign of a “clear” cycle.
Bitcoin touched on a record high of over $120,000 in August, but its profits dragged the profits of its smart contract platforms and AI-related tokens. Grayscale argued that Stablecoin laws in the US, including the passage of the July Genius Act, helped promote Altcoins, delaying Bitcoin, AI tokens and currencies.
The report also highlighted some structural changes in the crypto market. More Treasury Departments hold tokens on their balance sheets, increasing stable use within the US, and increased volumes through quarter due to central exchange. These changes created the right conditions for Altcoin Rally, which deviated from the previous cycle driven solely by Bitcoin advantage, Grayscale said.
Looking ahead, the company proposed that policies pending US policies, including the comprehensive market structure bill discussed in Congress, could potentially be a catalyst for Q4. Optimism is also built around a new Crypto ETF, with the SEC endorsing recently updated listing rules and clearing grayscale multi-asset funds holding Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana and Cardano.
Despite the price of Bitcoin milestones moving, Grayscale noted that both BTC and Altcoins are still lagging behind gold and stocks in terms of new and greatest history. The Stablecoin spill from the exchange may have played a role in attenuating momentum across the board.
Grayscale concluded that investors should not underestimate the importance of regulatory change. In that view, the combination of legislative advancements, ETF approvals and growing institutional adoption could shape the 2026 trajectory of the crypto market as a whole, not just the next quarter.
