Simply put
- Guido Reichstadter maintains his hunger strike in the San Francisco office of humanity.
- Michael Trazzi and Denys Sheremet performed similar highways at London HQ in Deepmind, but finished this week.
- AI Doomers is raising alarms about the potential dangers of AI Superintelligence.
Guido Reichstadter is on the 24th of a 24-day hunger strike outside San Francisco Headquarters Of San Francisco Headquarters, the artificial intelligence company behind Claude Chatbot. Every day he sets up on the sidewalk at 500 Howard Street, where delivery riders come and go, bringing food to unmarked office towers.
“There is great and deep evil in this place,” he wrote to X on Wednesday. “These developers are deliberately competing for superhumanly competent popular AI systems that don’t have a reliable plan to control.”
The 56-year-old activist who runs Group Stop AI has been consuming only electrolytes and vitamins since September 1st. His demands are simple. Humanity and its CEO, Dario Amodei, acknowledges the existential risks raised by Advanced AI and calls for an immediate halt to the race to super intelligence. In Reichstadter’s narration, the company covers itself in silence, putting those who unconsciously maintain it.
“Are they embarrassed?” he asked in his latest post.
Reichstadter is nothing new to dramatic protests. Earlier this year, he opened the door in his Openai office and gave a demonstration at Google Deepmind. He is not even alone. He was joined by Michael Trazzi and Dennis Sheremet.
However, on Monday, Sheremet called it quits and confirmed that he did the same on Tuesday.
“After 16 days with zero calories, I decided to stop the hunger strike outside Google Deepmind,” writes Sheremet. “We hope that Deep Mind’s leadership will take the first step towards escalating the race to extremely dangerous AI.”
Local outlets like San Francisco Standard and sfgate Recording Reichstadter’s vigil, claiming that Amodei personally meets with him to explain why humanity continues his current course.
For now, humanity has not publicly commented on the strike. (We will reach out to the comments and update if we reply.) While the company sells the market as an industry leader in AI safety, Reichstadter emphasizes that his pedestos “urgent” or “responsibly can be done” is “empty” or “responsibly”, his pedestos highlighting the rise in fissures between the model of existence and the AI labs operating on-site gumble.
Discussion forums like the Effective Altruism Forum also published the opening missions of activists, calling for an immediate halt of “reckless actions” by humanity and urged society to treat AI races as a state of emergency.
It is uncertain whether his fast power to debate openly or his personal tragedy will end there. Hunger Strike is designed to shock the conscience of the masses, but their power depends on whether the surrounding community chooses to pay attention.
Counting 24 days, Reichstadter has been gagging his health on the possibility they would.
