Coinbase Adds First AUD and SGD Stablecoins

Launched globally at 19:00 UTC on September 29th, these assets mark the first Australian and Singapore Dollar Stubcoins available on the platform.

Stablecoins are digital tokens pinned to traditional currencies, offering a faster, cheaper, and more reliable alternative to standard bank transfers.

Why AUDD and XSGD are important

The addition of AUDD and XSGD is consistent with broader trends in digital payments and cross-border finance. Stablecoins are increasingly becoming the backbone of global payment systems, supporting faster and more cost-effective transfers. For example, companies like Circle have demonstrated that USD coins (USDC) can resolve payments in minutes in a few minutes compared to days using traditional wire transfers.

Local stubcoin also supports the growth of on-chain commerce. Users can hold, send or pay in AUDD or XSGD without opening the doors of exchange rate volatility, e-commerce, pay, or microtransactions. This feature is central to Coinbase’s mission to bring one billion people into the crypto ecosystem. This makes Stablecoins accessible and practical in everyday financial life.

By providing assets related to local Fiat, Coinbase empowers users involved in encryption in familiar terms while participating in the global blockchain economy. As businesses increasingly explore Crypto for payment, pay and financial management, AUDD and XSGD provide practical tools for integrating blockchain into their daily operations.

More about Coinbase

Coinbase emphasized that traditional financial systems are not designed for the digital age. Their goal is to create a new financial system that is on-chain, open and accessible for everyone. To achieve this, Coinbase has partnered with the base and Y-combinator to support its founders. They are bold enough to develop the next generation of financial infrastructure and decentralized applications.

The initiative aims to provide resources, mentorship and funding to entrepreneurs who drive the boundary between Web3 and blockchain technology.
